The
English language is so unique; a simple period, comma, or exclamation point can
make a huge difference in a sentence. Personally, my biggest struggles are
run-on sentences and consistent word repetition. I also make the mistake of
getting so into my story ideas and sharing them, that I completely forget to
focus on proper sentence structure; so I wind up with grammatical errors all
over the place. Something that may surprise my instructor is that when I first
started this class, I typed using slang words like “u” or “lol” because it had
been a while since I had last typed a paper; I had gotten accustomed to writing
the way I texted. When I read my blog and saw an “F” instead of an “A,” it sunk
in; my grammar was completely off. I post this now because I used to be ashamed
about not having typed a better paper; but I know if I continue to give it my
all, I should see weekly progress. From what I have learned, there will always
be room for improvement and I should not be hesitant to listen to any advice I
receive. The simplest tip about punctuation placement can have a huge impact on
not only me, but anyone else looking to improve his or her grammar.
Hey Savon,
ReplyDeleteI think with the modern way of texting, I too have fell short. We have gotten so accustom to K (OK) or BRB (Be right back)..lol (Laugh out loud), writing a letter seems like the thing of the past. This class has opened my eyes to the correct way of how important it is to get back to basic.
I truly enjoyed reading your post - testimony.
Keep up the good work

ReplyDeleteVery nicely done, Savon. You have come such a long way in such a short amount of time! Yes, it is very important that writing be as clear and concise as possible so that others can understand what you are trying to say! I'm very happy that you are learning and improving day by day!

ReplyDeleteI needed to stop taking it so personally when I received feedback about my writing. It was not the content in the paper, it was the context of it. I see now that no matter how good the thought or the place it comes from. The writing must be executed properly to truly convey your thought and feelings. I will continue to pray for your success as well as everyone else in this course.
